Ideja univerzalnega temeljnega dohodka (UTD) govori o tem, da naj bi vsi clani druzbe imeli zajamcen temeljni dohodek. Drzava naj bi UTD izplacevala v enotni visini in rednih presledkih vsakemu clanu druzbe, ne glede na njegov socialni ali materialni polozaj, ter brez kakrsnihkoli pogojev in omejitev.

Kaksne politicne moznosti torej sploh ima UTD? Kljub argumentaciji nasprotnikov se je ideja UTD do neke mere ze uveljavila: za svojo so jo sprejeli nekateri politicni in druzbeni akterji, stevilne vlade so idejo proucevale, zanjo so se zavzeli sindikati, ekoloska gibanja in razlicne politicne stranke.

Po mnenju nekaterih zagovornikov ideje UTD bi sele z njegovo uveljavitvijo zagotovili temeljni cilj demokraticne druzbene ureditve – dejansko svobodo za vse clane druzbe.

Leta 2004 smo pri Zalozbi Krtina (www.zalozbakrtina.si) izdali knjigo Brezplacno kosilo za vse? Predlog univerzalnega temeljnega dohodka, kjer so ob Van Parijsovem besedilu zbrana razmisljanja tujih in slovenskih zagovornikov in nasprotnikov ideje UTD.
